Position Profile
KlezKanada is looking for a talented and motivated individual to support in various areas including administration, event production, and communications during the organization’s busiest time of year. We are looking for someone who would like to join our small team for the 2026 summer season, leading up to and including the annual Summer Retreat (August 17 - 27, 2026).
The person in this role will work an average of 15-30 hours per week from the beginning of May through the end of August and will earn between $16.60 and $17.10 an hour.
This is an excellent opportunity for a creative and resourceful person exploring a career in arts and cultural management or in the non-profit sector to help with the operations of our activities and programs, to grow our audiences and visibility, and to assist with the organization’s day-to-day administration.
About KlezKanada
Based in Montreal, KlezKanada is a nonprofit organization and leading institution in the world of Yiddish arts & culture and Jewish music. In addition to numerous concerts, workshops, and other events throughout the year in Montreal and online, KlezKanada’s flagship program is the annual weeklong Summer Retreat at a camp in the Laurentian mountains, an immersive residential festival for students, artists, families, and more, attended by a diverse array of people from all over the world.
Responsibilities
NOTE: exact responsibilities will be determined based on the intern’s profile of skills, strengths, and interests and ongoing projects and organizational needs at KlezKanada. Some tasks may include:
- Helping execute KlezKanada’s artistic programs at its Summer Retreat and other cultural and educational activities in Montreal
- Responding to incoming calls, emails, and other communications as assigned
- Maintaining, cultivating, and growing KlezKanada’s strong, diverse, and geographically widespread community through curated communications, as assigned
- Assisting with the physical production needs of the Summer Retreat. This could include tasks such as producing signage, decor, and hospitality touches for faculty and participants
- Assisting with the creation of promotional materials when necessary (including: copy, translation, graphic design, production)
- Assisting with daily bookkeeping and database management
- Liaising with vendors, venues, and artists for events, concerts, workshops, and other events, as appropriate
- Assistance with coordinating volunteers and other logistics for events
- Assisting Operations Manager with gathering physical supplies for Retreat, as needed
- Organizing and preparing art and music supplies for Retreat
- Customer service for Retreat participants in advance of the Retreat, and those who require more information about the Retreat and KlezKanada before registering
- Staying aware of news and trends in Yiddish arts, music and culture, then informing team of pertinent findings
- Monitoring community activity on the KlezKanada Facebook page and alert appropriate team member of pertinent questions
- Assisting with the creation of photo and video content for social media channels, as appropriate
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, work well autonomously and as part of a small team, and think creatively while meeting important deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work with and interact with KlezKanada’s very diverse community of attendees, artists, supporters, vendors, volunteers, and others
- Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and an ability to write for different audiences
- Strong computer skills, especially with regards to social media (Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram) and Google’s G-Suite of office applications
- Proficiency in French and English (written and spoken); other languages (e.g. Yiddish, Russian, Hebrew, Spanish) are an asset, but not required
- A sense of humour and spirit of resourcefulness
- Facility with online social media platforms and/or content creation is an asset, but not required.
- A love for arts and music and an interest in Jewish culture and the Yiddish language (required)

Candidates must be based in Montreal and have a personal computer (laptop). The internship can take place with a hybrid schedule of remote and in-person work as coordinated with other team members. A valid driver’s license is not required, but please include this information in the cover letter if applicable.
Depending on the candidate and parameters of their role, there may be the opportunity to attend the Summer Retreat as part of the position.
