Dumai Dunai
Slavic dub-punk missionaries Dumai Dunai have been winning the hearts of audiences worldwide since they first burst onto the scene in 2022. Based in Montreal with members from Ukraine and Bulgaria, the seven-piece combines the deep grooves of dub with the energy of punk rock, the raw ecstasy of the blasting horns of Balkan wedding brass bands, and the joys and sorrows of Ukrainian village polyphony. Featuring past and present members of the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Orkestar Kriminal, Boogat, and Bad Uncle, Dumai Dunai exists somewhere between the underground scene of their beloved Montreal and the mountains and valleys of their Slavic homelands.

KlezKabaret en ville, starting with a featured performance from Daniel Kahn and Christian Dawid
Museum of Jewish Montreal (5220 boul. St-Laurent)
Doors at 7:30 pm, show at 8:00 pm
Tickets are $15 plus tax for general admission. Kindly note that seating is based on a first come, first served model.
Yiddish troubadour Daniel Kahn is joined by his long-time co-conspirator, Berlin's legendary klezmer multi-instrumentalist Christian Dawid for a program of new and old songs, smuggled over the borders of Yiddish, English, German and French. Drawing on their close collaboration in the cult band The Painted Bird, as well as the tradition of such bards as Mordechai Gebirtig, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Georges Brassens, Bert Brecht, and Bob Dylan, this is a crop of broken ballads, crooked klezmer, prison laments, revolutionary blues, and apocalyptic anthems.
Daniel and Christian’s set will be followed by a KlezKabaret en ville! The Montreal Jewish Arts Collaborative is bringing KlezKanada’s legendary KlezKabaret out of the mountains and into the city. From the eccentric to the beautiful, we welcome the gamut of performance possibilities. Here’s your chance to show off the new material you’ve been working on, be it musical, theatrical, literary, or beyond! A community performance space, this is a welcoming environment for all disciplines and all levels. Sign up in advance or on the spot: we welcome performances that range from the rehearsed to the impromptu. This is a great place to share your creations and to meet people who are creating! Come out and perform, see, and be seen. The cabaret will be hosted by KlezKanada faculty and special guests, sleep-deprived but buzzing from the week at KlezKanada’s Summer Retreat.
Sign up to perform here! All are welcome to perform or to simply attend.

The Klezmer Kitchen Party, Festival Trad Montréal Composium
Patro Villeray (7355 Ave Christophe-Colomb)
8:00 pm
We are thrilled to partner with Festival Trad Montreal, a festival that showcases the vibrant musical traditions of Quebec, for a Klezmer Kitchen Party!
Cherished by many cultural traditions across Canada, the kitchen party conjures a welcoming scene of good company, good cheer, and good tunes. The Klezmer Kitchen Party brings Jewish culture to the table, featuring Quebec-based musicians Isaac Beaudet Lefebvre, Zafer Mamilli, Eden Glasman, and Thierry Clouette, joined by Berlin-based special guest Daniel Kahn.
Raise a glass with them as they swap new and old tunes from the klezmer and Quebecois musical repertoire and share new translations of Yiddish and French songs. As part of Le Composium 2024, the opening night of Festival Trad Montreal (August 29, 2024), the Klezmer Kitchen Party will include several brand-new tunes from Quebecois composers. Yene Velt at the Festival Trad Closing Party
Patro Villeray (7355 Ave Christophe-Colomb)
10:00 pm
Join Yene Velt for the Festival Trad Montreal closing party! Yene Velt Yiddish String Ensemble and Burial Society plays the klezmer music of Jewish Eastern Europe, featuring the traditional instrumentation of violins and tsimbl (hammered dulcimer). The repertoire is drawn from 100-year old recordings, manuscripts collected by traveling folklorists, and original compositions, and ranges from mournful violin laments to lively dances, melodies that tell stories of exile and exaltation. In Yiddish, Yene Velt means “other world”, and can refer to the time of redemption, to the superstitious realm of dybbuks and demons, or just a far, far away place. Yene Velt is Eden Glasman, Dan Kunda Thagard, Dan Wolfe, and Zafer Mamilli.
