An online party for Arkady Gendler’s 100th geburtstog – from Shtetl Berlin and KlezKanada
The original yiddish rock star, a treasure of yiddish song and language and a real mentsh – Arkady Gendler was a beloved member of the Yiddish community and an important link between the old and the new worlds in the klezmer revival. The songs he wrote, taught and performed at countless workshops and festivals around the world became an important part of the contemporary Yiddish repertoire. This evening we’ll throw an online birthday party in honour of Arkady’s 100th anniversary and remember him with videos (including some rare, previously unreleased footage), photos, recordings and stories told by his close friends and students, as well as Arkady himself.
